That said, this is still a secondary speaker; if you want to kick back and enjoy music, you need to get the larger Google Home.

It will work best if they are both on approximately the same level. I bought a 4 pack last year and just stared using them a few weeks ago because I forgot about them. One failed within 24 hours (the light went on/off via app, but no electricity was going through it), the rest within 3-4 days. Looked up the reviews and it seems to be common. Requires Wi-Fi connectivity for setup and operation. Still, the feature is handy when you're asking about your calendar appointments, or asking it to call Mom (and not, say, your roommate's mom). If you're a Google fan, the Mini is the obvious choice. The Google Home Mini puts all of the smarts of Google Assistant into a small and affordable package. The Mini sounds surprisingly good for its size and features a colorful design that can blend into your home's decor. Tiny speakers typcially don't sound very good.
Vocals are edgy, bass is non-existent and it doesn't go very loud. The Mini is louder, sounds smoother with music and has decent bottom end for a device the size of a hockey puck. Of course, we wouldn't use either of these if we had a choice -- the Oontz is the better of all three and makes music sound like music, plus it's portable and will accept a line-in. Don't be fooled by the Google Home Mini's affordable price tag or diminutive size. Such as "it's dinner time" to all of your connected smart speakers.
